Intervention Information

State Court Intervention Packet

Often a Tribe may want to intervene in an Alaska State Court proceeding--including child-in-need-of-aid (CINA) cases, guardianship cases, adoption cases, and private custody cases when the dispute is between a non-parent (i.e. grandparent, aunt/uncle, friend) and a parent.  The Tribe can designate a non-attorney and/or an attorney representative to represent the Tribe's interests in the state court case.  Tribes wanting to intervene should file the following forms included in the

Letter to the Clerk of Court

When filing the Notice of Intervention, Designation of Tribal Representative, Affidavit of Tribal Membership, and Certificate of Mailing, it is helpful to send a letter to the Clerk of the Court. Templates and directions are included below, formatted in Microsoft Word.

Change in Representation

It may become necessary for the Tribe to change the person representing them in the state court proceeding.  This can be done by substituting the designated Tribal representative.  The form and instructions for doing so are below:
